چکیده

Fish Target Strength (TS) is a requirement for estimating abundance from surveys of pelagic fish using echosounders. This paper describes novel in-situ method to estimate TS as function body length (L), according the standard equation = 20 log (L) +b20, where b20 species-specific factor be estimated. We made measurements with broadband scientific echosounder, which becoming new tool choice in fisheries acoustics due its enhanced signal-to-noise ratio, and higher range resolution ability measure frequency response. A split-beam 38 kHz transducer was pole-mounted on small boat fjords Nuuk, Greenland. With stationary, individual Atlantic cod Gadus morhua were detected echotraces, caught fishing line, measured then released. Video footage, camera attached inspected verify single attracted lure caught. echotrace tracking techniques applied tilt each acoustic sample adjusted accordingly use Kirchhoff-Approximation scattering model. The parameter estimated by linear regression. combines benefits associating known length, typical ex-situ methods, advantages measuring an undisturbed natural environment. Results yielded − 65.6 dB ( ± 0.83 C.I.), within previously published values narrowband systems. Large variability observed tracks (average s.d. 5.55 dB). first description equipment. high could not attributed variation nor angle. Other physiological behavioural aspects also discarded. It possible that this may intrinsic property acoustics, indicates need re-evaluating relationships science moves towards wider application acoustics.

A New Method to Estimate Inhibition Percentage of Endogenous Digitalis in Patients with Pre-eclampsia

Background: Pre-eclampsia is an idiopathic pregnancy disorder characterized by appearance proteinuria and hypertension, with poorly understood etiology. It has been linked to a variety of system abnormalities, including ion transport disorders in neonatal, maternal, and placental cell lines. A new method was described to evaluate the inhibition percentage of endogenous digitalis in plasma of pr...

A Mathematical Analysis of New L-curve to Estimate the Parameters of Regularization in TSVD Method

A new technique to find the optimization parameter in TSVD regularization method is based on a curve which is drawn against the residual norm [5]. Since the TSVD regularization is a method with discrete regularization parameter, then the above-mentioned curve is also discrete. In this paper we present a mathematical analysis of this curve, showing that the curve has L-shaped path very similar t...

A multiple-frequency method for potentially improving the accuracy and precision of in situ target strength measurements

The effectiveness of a split-beam echosounder system to reject echoes from unresolvable scatterers, thereby improving the measurements of in situ target strengths ~TS! of individuals, is dramatically enhanced by combining synchronized signals from two or more adjacent split-beam transducers of different frequencies. The accuracy and precision of the method was determined through simulations and...

A broadband cavity ringdown spectrometer for in-situ measurements

This paper describes a broadband cavity ringdown spectrometer and its deployment during the 2002 North Atlantic Marine Boundary Layer Experiment (NAMBLEX) to measure ambient concentrations of NO 3 , N 2 O 5 , I 2 and OIO at the Mace Head Atmospheric Research Station, Co. Galway, Ireland. The effective absorption path lengths 5 accessible with the spectrometer generally exceeded 10 km, enabling ...

Characterizing uncertainty in target-strength measurements of a deepwater fish: orange roughy (Hoplostethus atlanticus)

The variability of ensemble 38 kHz, target-strength (TS38) estimates for orange roughy (Hoplostethus atlanticus) (4.9 dB, factor of 3.1) in deep water (>600m) limits the use of echo integration for absolute-biomass estimates. Orange roughy are high in oil content, have a wax ester swimbladder, and show an active-avoidance response to sampling gear. The interpretations of ensemble, in situ targe...
